Payroll Specialist

Nason Contracting Group Ltd. is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our growing team.  The Payroll Specialist must perform a range of duties supporting divisional managers and multiple project sites.  This position requires someone with proven problem solving and organizational skills along with strong attention to detail. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Enter and update changes to the payroll system (Viewpoint)
  • Ensures employee payrolls are processed in a timely manner in accordance with Employment Standards and Labour Regulations (multi-province jurisdictions and union agreements)
  • Full-cycle payroll such as bi-weekly payroll, off-cycle pay runs, travel/meal allowances, LOAs, bonuses, one-time payments
  • Perform payroll related account reconciliations
  • Submit billing and remittances to various service providers
  • Communicate to internal stakeholders in Payroll policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations
  • Submit government reports and remittances
  • Assist with review and processing of year end reports and T4s
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries
  • Recommend, develop and maintain payroll databases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems
  • Develop and provide recommendations for policies and processes
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is required
  • Minimum 7 years of payroll experience
  • Experience working in an unionized environment is required
  • Experience in the construction industry preferred
  • Viewpoint knowledge is an asset
  • Efficient with MS Outlook and Excel
  • Excellent computer knowledge
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Well organized with excellent time management skills and the flexibility to work the hours required to get the job done during peak times
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Detail oriented, proactive, and self-starter in all areas of work
